What types of personal information do we obtain and why?
We collect the data displayed in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string, to help spam detection.
Avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) if you’re uploading images to the website. Any location data from photographs on the website can be downloaded and extracted by visitors.
You can choose to save your name, email address, and website in cookies if you leave a comment on our blog. These are for your convenience, so you don’t have to enter your information again when you leave another comment. This batch of cookies would last for a year.
We’ll set a temporary cookie if you visit our login page to see if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie does not store any personal information and is deleted when your browser is closed.
We’ll set up a few cookies when you log in to save your login information and screen display preferences. The duration of login cookies is two days, and the duration of screen options cookies is a year. Your login will be saved for two weeks if you select “Remember Me.” The login cookies will be removed if you log out of your account.
An additional cookie will be saved in your browser if you edit or publish an article. This cookie contains no personal information and only shows the post ID of the article you just edited. It has a one-day expiration date.
Embedded content from other websites:
This site’s articles can contain embedded material (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded material from other websites acts exactly as though the user had already visited the other website.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a message, both the comment and the metadata associated with it are saved forever. This is so that any subsequent feedback will be recognised and approved immediately rather than being held in a moderation queue.
We also store the personal information that users have in their user profile if they register on our website (if any). At any time, any user can view, edit, or remove their personal information (except they cannot change their username). The details can also be viewed and edited by website administrators.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
